This vernal pool necklace is a one-of-a-kind and handmade ceramic necklace made by L.A.-based artist kate lain. It is concave and features both raw clay texture and a multicolor glaze pool. The dark brown high-fired stoneware has a very slight sheen to it while the glazed areas have a high gloss.
The shape is uneven and organic and there may be tool and finger marks left from the artist working the raw clay. The brown leather cord has an adjustable knot so you can vary the length. The metal jump ring may contain nickel.
Pendant is approximately 2.5" tall x 1.5" wide
Cord is approximately 23" at its longest
The artists initials are carved lightly into the back of the pendant.
kate lain is a Los Angeles–area multidisciplinary artist working in film, video, clay, and other media.
In her varied works, she plays with material, texture, traces, and movement and is interested in ways people understand and interact with nature. Her preoccupations include family, memory, gender, land, texture, color, and place. She is drawn to places where structures and materials break down.
She approaches her various practices as collaborations—with material properties, with objects, with sites, with natural and chemical processes, with weather and other conditions, with the elements of chance that arise from all of these. Intention and discovery are equally important to her process.
Colors may look a bit different in person due to lighting and computer/phone screen color variations.
